Go

I have a friend who is moving from our university town with her husband. He has a job. She - at the moment of this writing - does not.

It's a scary thing to leave all that is near, dear and secure, knowing that your destination is a blank slate.

The story of the Disciple Philip comes to mind . . .

Philip has been preaching and teaching with the other disciples following the ascension of Jesus. They have returned to Jerusalem after preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.

But Philip gets pulled out of the community. Go south toward Gaza are his instructions. No final destination, no hint of what he is expected to do in Gaza, nothing he can hang his hat on, just Go.

So Philip goes and on the way he 'happens' across someone reading Isaiah. This someone is not an acceptable type. He's a eunuch. He wouldn't be acceptable even if he were a descendent of Abraham - which it seems he's not. But Philip is instructed to join the Ethiopian in his chariot.

As Philip explains the good news of Jesus to this treasurer of the Queen of Ethiopia, the eunuch is moved to request baptism. Philip baptizes him and then is whisked away to continue his ministry elsewhere.

My dear friend,  having our future all laid out nicely before us is comfortable. Learning to listen and follow the voice of our God in every moment offers us spontaneous adventures beyond our ability to imagine.

With the God through Whom all things are possible, you've got this.

Go in peace. Go in power. Go in anticipation!
